What seems to have happened here, is a mix up in information.
What they were probably trying to say is that the knob would not fit the OEM shifter with reverse lock.
I took it upon myself to remove mine in order to install the knob.
I have spoken to a representative at TWM to explain that and the clear up the situation.
For me personally that begs the question: Does the TWM short shifter kit even have a reverse lockout?

The full replacement short shift kit from TWM does have a reverse lock yes!

The reverse pull is in fact much smaller than the original, and does not affect the feel or get in the way when shifting. While at the same time it is still close and easy to pull when putting the shifter into reverse.

A reverse lock on the 500 is not really needed, before the TWM replacement shifter kit, I removed my Reverse lock on my OEM shifter so that I could install a weighted shift knob, and I found that it was easier to use without. But I guess it would be one of those " to each their own" situations.

I would have to ask TWM what material are used on the kit, I have no clue myself. I do know that on the first prototype that went in my car, the reverse look could be removed. I will double check if that is still possible on the second prototype that is now installed on the car.

Some quick pictures of my car with the TWM Full replacement short shifter kit installed, showing both the OEM shift knob and a TWM after market shift knob.
