I predict the same result as the 80's Charger and Duster attempt.
I am sure it's probably a nice car and all however, digging up a much loved 'American" car moniker is probably not a great decision. (Off the subject: By the way what is the deal with giving Mitsubishi the 'Lancer' name anyway?)
My two cents.....
How about a push button transmission again.

According to the manufacturer, the 2013 Dodge Dart is based on the Alfa Romeo and the “Dart” badge is a revival of the 1060s model. Dodge says that the 2013 Dart is riding on a platform adapted from Fiat’s European Alfa Romeo Giulietta and the vehicle’s wide architecture is using 68 percent high-strength steel to cut down weight. The new Dodge Dart is promising European style driving dynamics and a four-wheel drive independent suspension which is uncommon in the compact segment.
The 2013 Dodge Dart will come with a choice of three engines, a 1.4 liter 16 valve MultiAir Turbo, a 2.4 liter 16 valve MultiAir and a 2.0 liter 16 valve unit, but this is all we know for now about the upcoming model. The new Dodge Dart will be as stylish as its Alfa Romeo roots and the company says that its design will have something in common with many Dodge models, like the Charger, with its split grille, projector headlamps, fog lamps, LED tail lamps and the integrated dual exhaust system.
The new 2013 Dodge Dart will be officially presented at the next year’s Detroit Motor Show, in January, 2012, and more details about the model will be revealed by Chrysler.
