Remote starter install issues...

I'm looking to get a remote starter installed in my 2012 FIAT 500 POP and when i contacted my dealership they said its impossible because the parts, a security bypass, is still unavailable. They told me in February when i bought the car that remote starters would be available soon. ive read about other FIAT owners getting remote starters installed without a problem and it seems the parts are readily available... Am I just getting the run around from my dealer? Or are people doing something to bypass it manually that would in turn void a warranty? Or what? I'm confused and would really like the convenience of a remote start, this winter is getting rough... I'd like the remote to start the car and turn on the rear defroster (if possible) and cannot void my factory warranty or extended lifetime warranty... Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

Welcome you to the forum, as for the question, I cannot offer much help but I know I asked a local shop about installing the following unit and they would not, said it was a major concern being such a new car and they didn't think they could get enough information about the car, perhaps your dealership still feels the same which is seemingly a bit odd.

www.autoloc.com/catalog/Push-Button-Engine-Start-Kits/Handsfree-Engine-Start-System-with-Keyless-Entry/AUTHFS1003R/Red-One-Touch-Engine-Start-Kit-with-RFID-and-Handsfree-Keyless-Entry
Our cars already have keyless entry and I think it says you have to get inside before you push the button. I don't see that as an advantage over 'get inside - turn the key. A remote starter would only work on automatics anyway due to safety issues of starting in gear I think. Don't know for sure - I'm old and can still turn my own key

It is 100% possible to put a remote star or alarm/remote start on our cars.
You just need to go to a real Audio Video Specialist, not Best buy, Audio Express or places like that.
I can tell you it takes a bit more to install into our cars, I have all the info needed I just do not have the time to do the install the way I want to, I could slam in in and it would look horrible and I want it to look OEM, as if it was never installed.
You will loose a key (with some systems not with the one I will use.
I will be doing the CS5000 - Clifford SmartStart Security with Remote Start System price range is $599 or so >Clifford Alarms<<, you will also need bypass kits to have it talk to the cars computer,
Data Module: >>Xpresskits<<
Now think about it..
retail prices here, so your Specialist shop may work with you on price.
Alarms/remote start will range from $250-599 or so
Modules will range from $49-129 or so
Labor runs from $65 per hr to $85 depends on your area and the shop.
Install time more that are done to look like OEM will take about 6-10hrs
a slamout job (may work good but the install may not be as clean as it could be)
You get what you pay for will take 2-4hrs
So if you need help finding a shop in your area please contact me for a referral I will only send you to a shop that I know will do you right.

Enjoy

Yeah some of the Best Buy's in Ca will have Master certified MECP techs. and they will know whats going on.
most of the ones I have dealt with have novice installers and I would not let them work on a friends car..
How is your system so far Jim?

love the smart start.....flawless operation so far....i have it on my Ram as well...on the ap i just switch between cars....

it pretty funny to just sit and start my cars with my phone.......oh yeah...they have it set to open all the doors including the hatch.....try starting your car and then go to the back and get something you forgot...doh..its locked....that pisses me off..thank you smart start....

i have not done any audio upgrades yet....love the stock set up for now with the handsfree bluetooth...waiting for somebody to update the voice to that hot Italian model....come on troy......make it happen for us....

thank you to everyone who replyed to my post. after extensive internet searches and forum post sifting i found products that worked and an installer that could install em for me. i now have a working remote starter in my 2012 FIAT 500 pop, its an avital 4113 coupled with a DB-ALL for security bypass. works absolutly amazingly and has rediculous range for such a tiny remote... now i just need to remember to have the climat control knobs set where i want em lol...

The only "bad news" is that it will be impossible for the rear window defroster to be activated when you remote start the car. It's not a mechanical switch. When the car isn't running, none of the push-button dash switches are active, including fog lights, heated seats, sport mode...they all reset electronically to "off" by default when the car is turned off.

Nevertheless, it's still great to know that remote start is becoming a reality in Fiat world. Thanks for the legwork.

True, Its been forever since I've done it but pretty sure you can mimic pressing the button pressing Via relay and resistors. Then use the aux feature as the trigger. We used to do up to 4? aux inputs. On minivans we would open/close power sliding doors, kick on AC/heat. Open sunroofs, roll down windows... Pretty much anything that runs on a voltage signal you can run off those brains. Even alot of the canbus stuff is coming with that support built in. Well the more practical stuff like power rear hatch and sliding doors.
