I agree, if your state has a lemon law, then it will have a clause defining a certain length of time or number of times that your car is in the shop, in order for it to qualify as a lemon. You're probably pretty close to that amount, if you haven't reached it already.

We are in Canada. There's is unfortunately no lemon law here. But they have a feeling they can't fix it after all, and are keeping it for the mandatory amount of time as they check it out out. Hopefully we can come to an agreement that I can get a replacement car without being further in the hole too much.

Newest update. It's now June. Car came back having been updated with 3rd recall notice. Seemed to fix it until a couple of weeks back in my care...then of course I'm idling on the highway with construction. Start to drive again and the transmission goes on me. Of course. I drove it home as it flashed all the lights at me saying no D1 gear available and jerked it and hoped it for the best all the way home as it was at night. Missed a day at work getting a loaner lined up. Fiat is in the 3rd week trying to get approved from Fiat in Toronto to let me have a brand new transmission. They "hope" to have it back to me at the end of next week. Sure do hope so as the 2017 Mazda 3 GT is all I can see in my future. I will have to suck it up after all. Screw Fiat and their poor workmanship. Lemon Laws are not a thing in Canada.

That nine speed transmission is dumb. Nobody needs nine speeds. Just get the 1.4 turbo with a good ole' six speed manual.

    Nothing to go wrong there.

The 500L has never had the nine-speed. In 2014 it had the Fiat-supplied 6-speed DDCT, and from 2015-on it had a conventional 6-speed automatic supplied by Aisin. Plus the manual of course.

Call me crazy, but I have yet to see anyone post in this forum with a major problem related to a 2015 or later 500L. But to this day, people still come here with horror stories about their 2014's...

Fiat doesn't offer a 9 speed automatic, in any of their vehicles. 2014 500L was a dual clutch 6 speed automatic. 9 speed vehicles offer better fuel enconomy. There is no demand for manual transmission anymore.

It looks like the 2017 500L model. Doesn't even offer a manual transmission anymore. According to Fiats web page.

The expertly engineered 1.4L MultiAir®Turbo engine with six-speed automatic transmission packs a muscular 160 horsepower with Best-in-Class standard 184 lb-ft of torque

. With equal parts sophisticated exhaust system and MultiAir induction system, the FIAT® 500L helps yield maximum efficiency and swift acceleration.

Doesn't the 500X have the 9-speed? At least with the 2.4 engine.

The dualogic transmission, is a semi automatic. Manual without the clutch pedal. Similar what was used in the 451 smart car. Electronic engaged clutch plate. Not a stellar rated transmission. Where are you located at?
