    extra key/fob?

I just purchased a "new to me" 2015 Fiat 500. I love the car and it seems to be doing everything right! The car only came with 1 key/fob and I'm looking to add another. I saw a fob on ebay and also extra blank "blades" (the little thingy that goes into the switch). The local dealer tells me I need to purchase a new Fob and key from the dealership because a used fob is only designed to be used once and will not reprogram. Is this dealer BS, or is it for real? Seems that another fob of the same design/model# should be able to be reprogrammed. Anyone had experience with this dilemma? Thanks in advance for your help and for taking the time to read this!

IIRC the key is "dumb"...you program the car to recognize the key.
They key is unchanged in the process.

I think your dealer is mistaken...but I'm happy to be proven wrong.

Why don't you just get the other key from the person you bought the car from. If you don't, some morning you will go outside and your car will not be there!

Others on this forum, have mentioned. Who have lost their key fobs. Then tried to buy used fobs off eBay. A key fob can only be used once. One time programmed, per vehicle. The new keyfobs are sold in sets. Can only be programmed by the dealership.

    I mis-spoke, my bad.

A little google-fu shows exactly what smark mentions in his post.

ya, that's exactly what the dealer service tech said. Since i didn't buy it there, i had no idea if the guy was being straight with me. It makes sense to do it that way, i suppose. Another security measure and a plus for the car. IF you bought it new. Considering the savings i got on this one vs. most i've seen, it's worth it. Thanks to the forum folks who took the time to respond. It's much appreciated!!

I wonder if the dealer would contact the previous owner for you. Unless of course the car was bought at auction.
