    For the Love of Cars

Anyone in PDX will recognize the title of this post as the slogan of our local Studio. But you really do have to love these Fiats to put up with some of the crazy dealer stuff that goes along with the brand!

When the S34 (Clutch Recall) notice arrived, it took months before parts were actually in the dealer pipeline in order for them to perform the recall procedure. Then, when the parts were finally available, I was put on a waiting list for the recall. After several more months, I never heard back. Finally I had to call to find out I had been forgotten. They apologized and put me at the top of the list.

After three more weeks, I called again and they "scheduled" me for April 25 to bring it in for the recall. When I arrived this AM, they could not find me on their shop schedule for the day, and they had a full day in the shop, and no appointment until May. I was scheduled again (three weeks out), and had to return home to wait yet again.

You gotta love these cars to put up with the outstanding dealer service. Luckily, I do love these cars.

Guess it depends on the studio. Yes it was months before the parts were available and yes I received a couple of notices from FCA about the recall, but once the parts were available the fix was easy and painless. Fiat of Daytona scheduled me for the repair 5 days from my inquiry, had the car for half a day and the fix was done. I have never had an issue of any kind with my studio, although I also haven't had very many issues with the car

    Clutch Recall Saga (Update)

OK, update time. Finally got the recall performed. Cannot complain about the pedal cluster re-design or the clutch feel/travel. In fact, I think I prefer the new release/engage positions to before. However, my disdain for the automotive repair personnel has reached a new level I'm afraid. Here's the tally for the roughly 2 hour recall procedure:

    1. Deep scratch on driver's door (2 1/2" long down to the primer).
    2. Brake fluid on carpeting below the clutch pedal.
    3. Brake fluid on the floor mat (enough to puddle about 5" around).
    4. Brake fluid dripped down firewall and onto drive shaft and control arm.
    5. Negative terminal on battery loose enough to cause cluster reset.

Not a real happy camper, and low confidence in dealer service personnel. The scratch is the worst as I always take great care in parking to avoid such things. This is the first scratch on the car, and it's bad enough to require expert repair I'm afraid. Sigh...

I think you should engage FiatCares on this one.

I have acutally been pretty happy with my Studio since they got a new service manager. He is actually an ASE certified FIAT mechanic. I came in unannounced with a brake light out. He replaced it himself on the spot, only charged me five bucks to do it.

All Fiat techs are certified Fiat, and have ASE qualifications. There is a FCA training facility up the street from me. How hard is to replace a brake light? You don't need that training for that. Why didn't you do that yourself. My daughter can do that kind of repair.

He isn't a "tech". He is the service manager. The last service manager was a former barista.

It's hard when you don't know which one it is. My leg is not long enough to reach the brake pedal when I am standing behind the car looking at the tail lights.

Oh, and one more thing. While we were discussing getting my car in for the clutch pedal recall I asked him how many 500's had they serviced due to a failed clutch pressure plate.

    Anybody want to guess?

    Two.

    And FIAT paid for both.

Glad to hear. In fact, next time I would gladly drive the distance. Is your studio Kirkland or Tacoma?

    Thanks!
