    CEL code reader

    Hi,
The CEL just came on, and I want to get a code reader. I was wondering if any of you have a good recommendation?

They're all pretty much the same- don't spend more than $50.

Would you go with a bluetooth/phone app type, or a conventional handheld wired type?

    Hey J.B.

I've used these OBD2 tools on countless cars, they're inexpensive and very reliable!

    Hope this helps!

So, you get a code reader.

    Now you plug it in.

    Now you get a code.

    Now what?

How do you know what the code really means?

Well, consult with the service manual, I suppose...the service manual lists all the codes, potential cause for an error.

Thank you for the suggestion. I think I'm going to get that. I'm surprised how cheap those things are now.

The regular old plug in type are very simple. I have mine in the glove box. I think the bluetooth ones are kinda gimmicky but that's just me.
