While doing research on the Fiat 500 before i decide to buy one, I thought I knew the difference between the American Fiat 500 and European, but it turns out that the biggest difference is the structure.

According to this article http://boronextrication.com/2011/02/2012-fiat-500-body-structure/ the US Fiat 500's are built with stronger steel, and strengthened in specific areas where it would need it the most. I guess this is due to the wide range of vehicles we have here in USA compared to the European market.

Wouldn't it be better if all 500's were made like this for the sole purpose of safety rather then "taking away" from some markets?

In many places Fiat is on record stating that modifications made for North America with regard to safety will be added to the 2012 Euro versions of the car. We are lucky we get the 2012 version with all the upgrades first.
