I have a 2012 Fiat 500 sport and it needs a new engine. We are finding a lot more turbo engines available than the sport engine. Both are 1.4L. I’ve seen other posts where it is not recommended to swap the sport with the turbo engine, but those were for people wanting to use a turbo. I’m wondering if the turbo engine could be used in my vehicle without the turbo (long block). Could this work? Is the compression ratio lower in the turbo engine?

if not mistaken, you would not be pleased with that subsequent performance change.
Some turbo motors utilize the turbo in the initial acceleration. Hope that made sense or I stand to be corrected.
