First I want to say how very excited I am/was about this vehicle. Purchased used Friday 5/19/2017 and been driving it everyday since and this afternoon i got these 3 codes.

service electronic stability control system

service hill start assist system

service regenerative brake system

I have disconnected the 12V battery several times, and have turned on and off the car like 50 times. No luck.

It drives but doesnt regenerate at all.

I did feel odd vibrations earlier today when applying the brake.

Any advice?

Thanks

Is your car still under warranty?

You might want to pick up an alfa-obd and scan it.

Does AlfaOBD support the 500e? It isn't listed in the supported cars list: http://www.alfaobd.com/supported_cars.html.

You need to be careful about what you plug into a 500e. On the 500e, the diagnostic port is actually a proprietary interface, not OBD (although it uses the same type of connector as OBD). It will interpret OBD signals incorrectly and could potentially damage the car.

Based on his FB post, all of these problems started after he plugged something into the OBDII port...

Hi ericemir,

Sorry to hear about this! If you decide to visit your local studio for further diagnosis I'd be happy to offer assistance if needed. Just PM our page with your VIN and let me know.

Hey guys, took it to the dealer and they fixed it. Software updates and computer reflash. I do find it hard to believe that the obd did this but it is the only thing i did to it.

It would have helped to mention that in your original post. We could have directed you to several threads discussing that the 500e diagnostics are proprietary, not OBD standard. Those that have tried have encountered trouble too. Good luck.

Glad it is all sorted!

Yes, alfa OBD works on the 500e. I've used it on our 13 and our roomates 14.

Unpack this archive to the folder with the already licensed program AlfaOBD 1.7.1 and agree with the replacement of files, or manually replace files "AlfaOBD.exe" and "AlfaOBD.dll"

Run AlfaOBD.exe and observe licensed AlfaOBD 1.9.4 ))

Working diag adapters - all versions OBDkey & OBDlink, russian ELS27, various ELM327 USB\BT\WIFI.
Probably will workvery likely K+CAN interfaces (CANtieCAR, K+CAN commander, PCAN interface and others)

I am connected to Fiat 500E 15" via original ELS27 v3.0 - the program defined it as "OBDlink USB" :D

In the Fiat 500E two CANbus - 6\14 (CAN-C) and 1\9 (CAN-B)
There is no K-line in the DLC.
4&5 pins - ground, 16 pin - battery, 12 not use.
This is wiring from Autodata Online for general Fiat 500, in the Fiat 500E colors and
wiring are the same in the picture, except for the absence of 12 pins in the DLC.

To read all the ECU`s, you have to switch the bus pin-to-pin or use cross adapters.
In the diagnostic adapter only the 6&14 pins will work.

The components connected to the CAN-C (6\14) network are:

  • BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE)
  • ABS (ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM MODULE)
  • BVCU(ELECTRIC VEHICLE CONTROL UNIT)
  • EPS (ELECTRIC POWER STEERING MODULE)
  • BPCM (BATTERY PACK CONTROL MODULE)
  • ESM (ELECTRONIC SHIFT MODULE)
  • YRS (DYNAMICS SENSOR)
  • PIM (POWER INVERTER MODULE)
  • OBCM (ON BOARD CHARGING MODULE)
  • RBC (REGENERATIVE BRAKE CONTROLLER)

The components connected to the CAN-B (1\9) network are:

  • BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE)
  • EAC (ELECTRONIC AIR COMPRESSOR)
  • HVAC (A/C HEATER CONTROL MODULE)
  • IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER)
  • ORC (OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER)
  • PTS (PARK ASSIST MODULE)
  • RRM (RADIO RECEIVER MODULE)
  • TPM (TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING MODULE)
  • VTM (VEHICLE TRACKING MODULE)

Before running the program - correctly determine the com-port in the device manager

If you use the correct adapter - then there is nothing to hurt in the car you can not!!!
The applicable adapter should not have 1 & 9 pins!!! This alone can prevent.

G0to60, use it wisely)

PS: to use additional functions across AlfaOBD (immo, coding and so on) - it takes 5-digit pincode from the client card

If the code is unknown - then the option:
1. Use AVDI (original, highly expensive) vs FVDI (China clone AVDI) - for direct access across DLC to the BCM for reading dump in the DMA-mode, and calculating the PIN
2. Solder a chip EEPROM in BCM and use hardware programmer & calc for direct access to data for calculate PIN

In addition to AlfaOBD, the Fiat 500E program is guaranteed to read the FiCOM program, but it was not possible to get and test it

On the question of, adapters for diagnosis and their pinout.

If you select some systems, the program may ask you to use a commutator adapter to access the CAN-B data bus.

For the Fiat 500\500E\500L\500X - this adapter is yellow colour.

Adapters and their connection scheme:

Can you connect to the VTM with AlfaOBD? I wasn't able to on our 13 and 14 - it isn't shown in the list of available modules.

Direct communication with VTM without Witech will not be, but partial control of functions via BCM - the menu "Active Diagnostic" - "Power Mode"

So, what is the risk of failure? This will be my first communication with an ECU. Unfortunately, the only service dept. is 270mi. away. I've utilized the skills needed to do this with phones and joysticks so I'm confident I'll get it right, but the actual utilization of the AlpaOBD software is tripping me up.

What are the consequences of doing the wiring wrong?

What is the risk of turning this car into a "brick?"

Has anyone accomplished the above instructions? Good, bad or otherwise?
