Brand new EasyWallbox Fiat 500 branded for sale

Hi all, I made the mistake of ordering an EasyWallbox at the time of ordering the car, not realising that once that item has been associated with the order and the car has started assembly Fiat won't allow you to cancel. I tried to make a fuss but to no avail. This box is completely fit for purpose but it only works with the Fiat (I had that confirmed by the manufacturer yesterday - completely barmy but there it is). It also doesn't qualify for the OZEV grant. I got a Tesla earlier his year and had two Easee One chargers installed (shout out to EV specialist electrician Kaine Dixon of Positive Electrical Services, Frome). Kaine gave me such a good deal on the Easees and we got two separate OZEV grants, that I only need £200 to recoup the £450 I paid for the Fiat EasyWallbox.

£200 is equivalent to getting the £150 OZEV grant and another £100 off a brand new, unopened charger box. I am hoping someone here might be interested in buying it at that price. If so, reply here and I will put it on eBay with a Buy It Now price of £200 plus the courier charge so we both get the buyer and seller protections. I am willing to open the box to photograph the item if requested. Of course I have proof the charger was delivered to me brand new by Fiat last week.

Hope it proves a bargain for someone!

Hi. Suddenly getting my 500 in 10 days so hurrying to sort home solution and this could be ideal to use now and wire properly later. I have read about but seen various opinions. Do you know if this does ONLY work with a 500? Thanks.
Hi thanks for your reply. It makes absolutely no sense to me but the manufacturer confirmed to me the Fiat branded box only works with Fiats. There is some kind of electronics in there that communicates with the car, presumably for the purposes of the Fiat app. However they used to make this exact same product to work with any EV (I have a copy of the manual for that version which makes it clear it could be used for any EV). So I can guarantee it will work with your Fiat. What I can't guarantee but I think is pretty likely is that a competent EV specialist electrician could find and disable the bit that talks to the Fiat. Also I wouldn't be surprised if you tried it with another car as it is that you found that it works.

It's certainly a bargain at £200 plus carriage and will charge your new car immediately. Any competent electrician can wire it to charge your new car at 7Kw and as I said if they know what they are doing they can probably sort it to work with any car. I will ask my expert EV electrician his opinion tomorrow.

What area of the country are you in? I am in Somerset. If you are nearby you could collect.

If you could ask I’d be grateful. I’m in Aberdeenshire so a bit of a trek ;) Thanks
I guess you are planning to get (or already have) another make of EV?
No just making sure I know what I’m buying to make an informed decision :) This one will be a 3 year lease so may or may not be fiat after that.
Understood! I suspect that for a three year period, £200 plus very easy installation will be a good investment. It's deeply annoying and in view stupid to restrict the charger to Fiats but there it is. I may not be able to speak to the chap till Tuesday as we have a bank holiday tomorrow but as soon as I do I will let you know. He may need to open the box (I haven't opened it yet) and take a look inside I suppose.
I’m pretty sure I agree with that assessment. My main thought is I’m not sure how the box would communicate with the car unless it has GSM of some sort that’s not mentioned anywhere as I don’t think (hah!) there’s any network protocol that can work over the charge lead? No hurry as I don’t think I’ve the money till the middle of the week. Went from car arriving goodness knows when to you can pick it up a week Tuesday so had to scurry around raising deposit quickly! Thanks again.
OK I have some good news. It is currently happily charging my Tesla, at 10A. It is obviously only plugged in with the three pin plug, not wired in so as to give the 7Kw charging. I also have the user's manual. If you are on Whatsapp or Messenger, contact me by PM and we can swap mobile numbers. I can send you a short video of the Tesla charging with the Wallbox.

That’s brilliant. Message on the way.
This is the user's manual if anyone is interested.

Now on eBay for £250 Buy-It-Now plus carriage. It definitely charges my Tesla and there does not seem to be any "handshake" or near-field technology evident (why would there be? it would add cost for no good reason). I just tried the Tesla again with the Fiat away from the property and it works fine. I made another video!

Just to add, this box was made by Engie of Italy in an unbranded version looking absolutely identical except no 500e or Jeep logo of course, which was sold as a general use home charger for any EV or Hybrid that used a Type 2 cable. Last year Engie joined with an another company to form Free2Move, which is who makes the current ones. Apart from the printing on the box changing from Engie to Free2Move the entire thing looks entirely unchanged. I think it is fair to conclude the "only charges Fiats" rumour is b*****ks. I would be very interested in anyone else's experience charging another brand of car.

Thanks for that .... its good to know it will work on other vehicles ... I was given my wall box free by the dealer... having it fitted for around £250 ..... for 7kw usage. ;-)

That's a pretty generous dealer! In the UK the cost of the wallbox is over £450 - I am not sure if it comes free with the La Prima. UK Fiat main dealers in the UK seem tight as b*gg*ry - I had to hassle them like **** just to get free car mats.

Our car is an Icon upgraded to La Prima spec with the all various packs, because my wife wanted a white car. It came in at around the same price.

If you live in France, try and find out if you have a three-phase supply. If so you may be able to get the wallbox to deliver 21Kw. Your electrician should be able to sort it.
EDIT: I see you are in UK - got you mixed up with someone else on the other thread!
Apparently the 1st introduced launch La Prima's had the wall chargers thrown in for free...............now, apparently this has stopped. I am pretty pleased it appears to charge other cars.....does the unit connect to the internet via wifi?
It works via Bluetooth - there is an iOS and Android app called Free2Charge that can be used to control the box - turn charging on and off etc. However none of that is needed for the Fiat - smart charging via the Fiat app will control everything, as will the Tesla app if you are using that.
