Remember the Fiat 500 EV we have posted all over this forum? Chrysler loses $10 000 on every Fiat 500 EV it builds. What has me wondering is why didn't they figure this out before digging themselves into a deeper hole. $10 000 is A LOT to lose on 1 vehicle, too much actually. Chrysler is already off to a bad start, this just puts them into a deeper hole.

Even tho they might be sticking to producing EV's for the sake of the environment i don't think it's worth losing $10 000 on each model built. Other manufactures have EV's and don't lose out.

the below is from http://www.egmcartech.com/2011/04/01/chrysler-to-lose-10000-on-every-fiat-500-ev-it-builds/
According to Fiat/Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne, the Auburn Hills automaker will lose more than $10,000 on every Fiat 500 Electric it sells. Nonetheless, the heavy financial hit won’t stop the company from producing the Chrysler-built electric version of the Fiat 500 in the United States in 2012.
“The economics of EVs simply don’t work. On the 500 that (Chrysler) will begin selling in the U.S. next year, we will lose over $10,000 (per unit) despite the retail price being three times higher” than a version of minicar with an internal combustion engine, Marchionne said.

The economics of electric vehicles don't work for any body so it is a pretty even playing field. Of course if they can get Obama to give them $10k per vehicle they would break even.
