Hey guys, I just joined the forum after buying a 2013 abarth with 48k. I hoping I can get some guidance. There are a couple issues with the car at the moment:
1) a clunking noise when I turn the wheel but only when parked or low speed as far as I can tell
2) very stiff left to right movement on the shifter (the shifter doesn't return to the center.

I took the car to a Sands Chrysler dealer in Quakertown Pa since it was close to my work. I also need to renew the inspection so I brought the car in this morning.
After about two hours of waiting, the customer service rep came out and told me my car failed inspection and would need about $1500 of work to pass inspection and fix the shifting issue (jaw drops). I am including a picture of their evaluation.

They told me a ball joint was failing and they have to replace the entire control arm as well as a left front strut and a shifter bracket for the shifting issue. Is it normal for all these suspension components to break on a car with less than 50k? Also, I have never heard of a transmission bracket failing. I know the cables and bushings can go but both these were already replaced by previous owner. Any help would be appreciated!

Sorry to hear. My fiat clunks as yours does, but mine is the strut bearing on driver side. Something for you to look into . I would do research on all components in shifter and see what would control what's going on with your shifter, sounds like a spring to me. Good luck

For the steering clunk, are you sure its not the intermediate shaft? part number 68105066AA thru 68105066AF (there have been multiple revisions, try to get the latest)

From I did not, I will replace struts and bearing when I get a chance. My turbo issue is more of a priority.
Listen to top of each strut and see if you can hear sound while someone is steering
