ESC and Hill Assist unavailable lights!!! HELP!!!

120878 Views 51 Replies 33 Participants Last post by  Brookes500
So just wired my car back up after putting in new speakers and an amp.
Had been running the car throughout the installation to check components. Everything was working fine.
Then routed some small power cables behind the dash, put the terminals on the battery and when I started the car I got a message saying "ESC unavailable and Hill Assist unavailable". Did I blow a fuse, or is something more serious wrong???

HELP!!!!

My reverse lights are working…
I have no idea what I’m looking at or for…so I took some pics. If anyone can point to something I should check, would greatly appreciate!

Follow the brake pedal up . And there is a blue and brown . Part that is the brake switch. See if the wires are connected. And if it's position correctly. There is a YouTube link that shows how to check or replace

Does this hillstart unavailable code put your car into limp mode. Ever since i got that code my car only pushes 6-10 psi. Nothing else sounds wrong and no boost leaks
No , I did not experience that . I think in this same forum there are solutions for that.
There is also a little wire i think for abs or yaw sensor (not sure if or either) that runs just behind front signal lamp housing that is clipped to inner fender...mine became unclipped bec my wife got into small fender bender. Just clipped back together and all good.

Can you be a little more specific about where this wire is located? Is there one on both sides of the car?
I have very similar issues. All the warning lights come on pretty much at random when driving. Hill holder unavailable start stop unavailable, EPS failure, fuel cut off failure, and then ultimately engine failure and the car cuts out. Have to turn it off and on again to reset. I’ve been to loads of garages, and none have been able to fix it. Even the official fiat dealership have tried 3 times to fix it, and have apparently checked every connection. If anybody has an idea please let me know! It would be such a shame to scrap a perfectly working car because of an electrical fault!

Hey, i don't know if this can help but i'm facing the same issue, hill assist then transmission issue followed by fuel cut off and no more working speedometer. i keep erasing codes and waiting for tomorrow to try it again but it seems like my issue is related to rain/snow, every time there's rain or snow there's a chance for me that this comes out. Today i left the heater on max and waited inside the car while it was having these errors for like 30 minutes and i started playing with the trunk wires specially the wires that are connected to the trunk release and plates ( i found a lot of corrosion in the wires connected to rear trunk lid Hatch Handle) , restarted the car and was able to drive it for like 1hr, usually it will break after 30min. I suspect there's an open loop in that area that is creating a canbus issue. After the one hour drive i just removed the two connecters from the lid hatch handle and now i'm waiting on the next rain or snow to take it out and see if this comes back again. if you have trunk issues this might help but i don't know if this a fix or not since i'm still testing, but think of all the times these random lights came on, was it raining ? also no garage will be able to fix this issue since it's intermittent and reading codes will just show that all the modules are failing. i'll try to update this and if i never do it means i either traded the car or went to scrap.

PS: avoid the highway i almost had a crash when i was trying to get the car back to my house with a transmission issue and fuel cutoff, also please keep in mind that you shouldn't play with wires while your engine is on ( i just don't care about the car anymore and i'm just testing stuff on it)

Another guy on another forum said : A similar thing happened to my 2012 Sport, except it wasn't intermittent. No speedometer, tachometer, hill start assist, etc. I took it to the studio and they found an open circuit coming from wiring, I think it was in the rear lift gate. They fixed it under warranty. Good luck.

Related codes to my case : U0001 U0002 U110E U110C P0741 ( some codes i didn't capture since they don't stay for long and i dont have a very good OBD reader)

quick update: so far since i unplugged the two plugs connected to the trunk lid Hatch Handle, i didn't get the errors. i drove it hard in snow turned esc on off and it's still fine.. idk if this will help someone else but it's worth trying aswell.

Hi, I have got the ESC/Hill assist error after having the radiator replaced. Do you have a bit more information on what/ where this wire is please? Which side, is it a plug/connecter etc. Many thanks

I could do with this too. I had my head in the foot well earlier but couldn't see where it would be. It is a 2015 right hand drive 500 and we're getting the same ESC, Hill assist and also tyre pressure unavailable warning intermittently.
Does anybody have a more specific description of where the "bad ground that controls the ABS & ESC module" is located? I'm getting the intermittent "hill start assist, ABS & ESC unavailable" warning messages as well.
This would be VERY helpful.
