Hi, I’ve just been told my Gucci Fiat 500 with ONLY 11,000 miles on it needs to be replaced because the oil is eating through to the engine!! At a quote of $10,000!! Not going to happen no matter how much I love my car. Any thoughts?

Why did it die? We need a lot of details. Has it been sitting?

oil does not eat through an engine.

It’s 1 of 4 cars that I have. So it doesn’t get driven daily. But it does get driven weekly. That’s what the mechanic told me. I didn’t understand it either, I e called them back to get more clarification but no return call yet.

I guess what we are asking is things like did it die while you were driving? If so, was there any warning lights? Did it make a big noise, or did it spew oil, or did overheat, or any indication of what the circumstance of it is. And if it didn't die while you were driving, and it simply didn't turn over after being parked for a while, then the cause of it could be very different. We kind of need to know those things in order to give you some sort of opinions and ideas.

Having seen the other thread from the OP, my suggestion is to have a good independent mechanic do a diagnostic. A good place to start is if your town or area has an Italian car specialist or an exotic car specialist shop. For a catastrophic diagnosis like that, always get a second opinion.

Unfortunately this is my second opinion. I took it to an independent mechanic, and then took it to the Fiat dealership and they confirm the same thing.

You can get a low mileage salvage engine cheaper. Then what a Fiat service department will charge to replace. Oil, won’t eat a engine. Can you take a photo of the service estimate?

Just an update on this issue. I just heard back from the Fiat dealership that they cannot find my results for my compression test. And it wasn’t input into my cars profile where it should be since I’ve been going here for over 2 years. Suspicious right??

I need o so many more details. What year is it first of all, second if these cars sit for any period of time the multi air system dries up and the car will have no compression at all. untill it is reprimed i have never heard of one of these dying that fast. I can lead you threw the process if you get the vehicle back in your possession. I never trust a dealership. Especially on prices. A replacement engine can be bought from lkq on ebay for less than $1000 and can be pulled from most any, if not all different years. Of this vehicle as long as the components from the original engine are used. I know because i have done it.
