Hi

I brought a secondhand Fiat 500 Hybrid (2020) this week with only 1300 miles on the clock. It runs very well but I've noticed that the battery charge is very low and doesn't seem to be increasing as I drive.
It's been sat for a while at the garage and obviously wasn't very used by it's last owner so does it just need a bit more driving to charge up or is there an issue with the battery??

Hi Jacky R, we expirience the same with our Fiat 500 hybrid. When we use it less the battery from the hybrid system doesn't charge. When we drive it more days in a week with longer distances it starts charging again, I'm going to ask the dealer for an answer.

Hi, I’m currently having this issue with my 2022 hybrid. (I haven’t been using my car much recently) Did you get any advice from your dealer?

Hi Janis,
At this moment the car has been back to the dealer and they thought that the OBD dongle from the insurance company caused the problems. After the messege I removed the OBD dongle without any progress.
Past weekend I pulled the Cables from the 12 volt battery for an our, after connecting them everything was working again. Today my wife took the car for a short drive (about 12km) and the hybrid system didn't work anymore.
I think that I have more information at the of this week when we drove some more kilometers.

On March the 8th I have an appoint at the dealer to investigate the problems if they keep coming back.

Hi, just an update: after 3 weeks of not charging/decreasing, I went a drive for approx 50 minutes on the motorway. After this, there was no change but I then took it out again the following day, and it started charging again as soon as I went out! Hopefully yours will sort itself too!

Hi, I have been testing one more time last week. I have pulled the minus connection from the 12 volt battery in the motor compartment for about 5 seconds and mounted it back again. After that the car was charging again but later that day after about 3 hours I took the car for a short ride and it didn't charge anymore.
I will keep you posted after the dealer investigation next Wednesday.

Hi, meanwhile we have been to the dealer, and they said that the issue was solved by a software update.
When I collected the cat I drove about 500 meters and the hybrid didn't charge, I returned directly to the dealer and they arranged a specialist to make a test drive together. Guess what the hybrid system was not working, the specialist returned directly to the workshop and connected the 500 on a computer. After some testing sessions they saw that the 12volt battery in engine compartment was below the value to charge the hybrid system.
With this information they concluded that there is something wrong with the battery or the sensor that messers if the hybrid system is available for the petrol engine support.
They imidiatly ordered a new battery and sensor because the car is still within the factory warranty and made a new appointment for the 29th of march.
To be continued.

I have the same problem. I also feel that the car is slightly slower accelerating when the battery and start/stop functions aren't working. I have a 7,700mile 2021 fiat 500 mild hybrid 1L engine. Would massively appreciate if anyone gets to the bottom of this issue as I can't find a concrete answer online. One reddit user said that from the manual:

NOTE If the conventional battery is
flat, there is no energy recovery to
the auxiliary battery, and so the Trip
Computer "Energy Flows" screen on
the instrument panel (for versions with
colour display only) does not display
the relative recharging flows.

This doesn't make that much sense to me, as even after long drives when the engine battery should be full, the mild hybrid battery still doesn't charge. May go to a dealer soon
