Hi to all,
First, I love my Abarth. Bought BELLA 1 week ago, Bianco/Russo stripes/mirrors. It reminds me of my '05 MINI MCS. Soon to be 70, I probably have owned too many cars over the years. Age doesn't always tell the whole story. I still run 45-50 miles per week. I have kept track of the miles since 4/76. Currently at 77,604 miles. That is more miles than I put on my last 4 cars('01 Vette,05 MINI,09 BMW 135, and my '11 JCW).
Some questions for fellow members: Why doesn't the rear window wiper pull back, clear of the window? **** near broke it and realized, I think, it only goes back a couple of inches. Seems to make it more difficult to clean the window. I have also noticed with a little spirited driving the rear window washer seems to excrete some liquid. Maybe, it is too full?Does this happen to others?
I have ordered a red stubby antenna but attempted to loosen/unscrew the OEM antenna and was again afraid I was going to break it. It didn't seem to want to loosen. Am I too weak, or is there a different way to remove it?
Tire pressure sensors seem to be off. Measuring manually and with my compressor with the car not being driven for over 12 hours the readings reflected on the screen are 3-4 pounds higher. Fronts show 41+ when on my devices it shows 37.5. Rear tires read 35, whereas my measuring reflects 32.5. Just curious. My experience over the years leads me to trust my manual measuring devices. Thoughts welcome.
if you are still with me, have a little over 400 miles and have gradually been increasing the rpm's, speed, etc. I am showing around 22-23 miles per gallon. My JCW, driving it harder on the same roads/traffic conditions in the city I got around 28. The JCW is heavier and has 50 more horses. I hope the mileage gets better with time. I truly didn't buy the Abarth for fuel economy, just surprised. Thoughts please.
Geez, I can ramble. I have ordered a BMC air filter and would like to buy a smaller version of the Abarth scorpion(red vinyl and maybe place it on the rear to the right of and above my license plate. Can you provide some vendors who carry this type of thing?
Look forward to some feedback. Thanks for taking time to digest my epistle. Nick

when measuring MPG its best to reset per trip as it is calculating the average MPG from day 1

i have the same issue with fluikd coming out of the back. i dont see it being an issue.

if you check with a manual gauge and its at 1 psi and youo drive it itll heat up and increase the tire pressures, and manual gauges isnt always 100% accurate. id personally go by the cars gauge

hope youve been enjoying it so far i know i have.

Rear wiper: Good question! I haven't actually looked at mine to see what's physically stopping it. Maybe there's an easy mod we can do with a Dremel or something.

Rear washer fluid: You're cornering too fast. haha Actually, that's a common issue. I think there's an older thread where Fiat knows about it, but I don't think any cure has been found.

Antenna: Can't help you there. My stocker works fine and I haven't tried removing it.

Tire pressure: Lucky you, you have actual readings on your 2013, while I only have a "low pressure" warning on my 2012. Anyways, who knows what's calibrated properly. Use the readings as a comparative indication of whether or not the pressure is too high or too low, not for the actual readings. Just know what the numbers should read for your everyday use.

Your mileage WILL improve with time. 400 miles is just a daytrip for some. lol (here's a map of our daytrip from Oct 6, 2012 - 600 kms or 370 miles)

Decal: Dunno, maybe eBay or your local vinyl graphics sign shop?

Welcome to the site!

With my '13 Sport, I averaged 34mpg on my first tank, 36 on my 2nd, and I'm nearly 38 on my current tank. Same driving conditions..I'd imagine your car is still breaking in.. BTW, the owner's manual says to drive wide open throttle during the break in! My antenna has a center bolt and two hemisphere nubs on either side that keep it from turning, I had to twist pretty hard to get it off initially. I ran into the same "almost broke it off" situation with my rear wiper when I was washing the car the other day..no clue why it's like that, but it's annoying.

Welcome to was Miniman now Abarthman land! Took a test drive while my 05. Mini S conv was being serviced only because Fiat dealer was right accross the street. Thought the Mini was the most fun car I ever had. Traded the Mini the next day! That was 3/20 and just turned 5,000 miles. Avg mpg is 35 - mostly stop & go around town miles. I drive 3-4 times farther than needed because it is so much fun. Only one in my town so gets lots of looks & comments. I have a dash decal that reads "Life is too short to drive a boring car". I had Scorpion decals made at local sign shop. My main complaints are no passenger arm rest and driver seat needs to go 1" lower for tall guys (I'm 6'4"+). With power sunroof it's close. Exhaust sound can be addicting.

OK, no one break the wiper! Grab the base area with both hands and pull outward (away from the shaft), it is a clip and once lifted the wiper will move normally and not only a few inches.

The mileage will improve as you put more miles on the car, no worries.

The rear leaking, that's cause you tickled her and she peed herself, nothing has yet fixed this so you kind of get used to it happening, if you drive like me and have the ECU modded (to max level..hehe) you get used to seeing it A LOT. :D

The rear antenna is just tight, I have a stubby on mine now and found that I was easiest able to deal with it by placing a piece of cardboard on it and a wrench so as not to damage either, worked great.

The TPMS with these cars tend to be a little finicky, trust your manual readings.

For decals, contact Boris in Florida, great prices and great quality as well.thiswomps352 AT gmail.com

I think that is all you asked about, if not ask away and I and other will be happy to help. I have pics of the rear wiper if needed. ;)

Last but not least, congrats on your new FIAT and welcome to the forum!

Actually, I will just post the info on both front and rear wipers with pics I did when it was needed before. :)

Welcome to the forum!

The rear window wiper does pull away from the window (I have a 2012, but I can't imagine it changed). You have to pull the piece near the pivot point up and then you can pull the wiper up. As Tweak said you should use both hands, because you need to pull the plastic away. I didn't realize how hard it was to do with one hand until I made this video just now. How to lift the rear wiper

Also +1 on Boris. You can see the scorpion he made for me in my garage.

Ha, thanks for that! When washing I just noted the annoyance, and never gave it a second thought, thinking that that was just how it was designed.

The rear wiper comes up only a few inches from the rear window by design. Most European and Asian car manufactures assume Amreican car owners take their cars to a car wash to clean them. The rear wiper has a stop on it to keep it from being broken off in a car wash. Strange, but true.

Well I think you got my twin! Love the car. Have a Cabrio too. Love it as well.

As others have said, the antenna might be tight. I put a stubby on as well. The dealership near me takes them all off till cars are sold. They told me it just unscrews.

As far as the two hand method of pulling up the clip or cover on the back washer, really all ya' got to do is put your fingers underneath the shaft clip's end near the wiper and slightly spread its "wings" apart. It'll pivot right up. Easy-peasy!

My mileage is 26 to 28. Lower if I'm always on it. But I bought the car for fun not mileage, like you. I own oil stock & royalties, so the oil dividends pay for my gas anyway, haha! (My dad always said to buy stock in companies that make things you use, to defray the cost of purchasing their products that you like. In '95 I bought a Harley (still have it). I invested into H-D stock the exact same amount I paid for the bike. The stock doubled. I sold it and netted the Harley for free! In the meantime I'd used the dividends to subsidize my chrome purchases! And the bike is still worth around $5k today.)

My very old (30+ years) tire gauge matches what's on the dash so don't know which is correct in your case. Also matches my compressor's tire pump gauge.

My rear squirter hasn't leaked yet. I have 2,800 on car. I don't think I've used it more than a handful of times though.

Enjoy!
..rickko..
PS. I'm 67 and still pound the pavement around here too.

As far as the mileage goes, you can get much better mileage in the Abarth. The question is do you want to? Yes, it's lighter and has a smaller engine and is rated higher by the EPA, but it boils down to how you drive the car. Given the smaller engine and power of the Abarth you are probably pushing it harder than the JCW (and having a blast I'm sure). It's like all the idiocy of companies replacing V6's with turbocharged 4 cyl engines. On paper the 4 cyl gets better mileage at similar power, but in real life they can often be much worse than the v6's they replaced. Heck, I seem to recall a test where a Prius got worse fuel economy than a BMW M5 that it was drafting behind!
