Hey all, quick question. I have an escort 9500IX, had it hardwired in my old car. I want to get it hardwired in my 500... All i need to do is tap into the cigarette lighter for a positive and negative source, and because the cigarette lighter turns on and off with the car, that is the best place to wire to.

Has anyone taken apart the lower console and or taken out the lighter plug to get to the wires? I just wanted to see if anyone else has been successful with this before i go tearing into it.

Well, i went out and took a look, and if you remove the cupholder inserts, there are two bolts, and it looks like the cup holder panel just unbolts loose. Should be decently easy.

I may get to doing this over the weekend if the weather is nice enough. Ill update once i get things done

Looking forward to reading further conversation with yourself..hehe, really I look forward to seeing what comes of it, I intend to eventually wire some things internally which will mean pulling the lower console area.

Haha, yea, ill make sure to keep the conversation going lol.

i just wish i didnt have to leave my hardwire kit in my old car, as the kit is about 35 bucks. I can however, use a phone cord, as its the same exact plug. There really isnt a good place for the mute/power assembly in the 500 anyway, so not a huge deal. I just want to free up the cigarette lighter for when i want to use my gps and have to plug it in, and not have a cord draped down the dashboard.

Ill probably visit a best buy or similar store and pick up a long enough phone cord this week, and as long as the weekend is decent, get cracking on it.

For reference, this is how i had it installed in my old car(note the mute button/power light/alert light under the radio):

I haven't looked closely but it seems Dodge picks all of the interior parts for several of its dash, steering wheel, gauges from the same bin...on topic it will definitely make for a much cleaner look and you are correct, the option for placement of things in the 500 is fairly limited.

Yes, dodge is terrible for that. One reason i like the Fiat haha

So, i bought the phone cord, took everything apart, which is easy, but time consuming, and apparently the phone cable i bought was too thin of wire, as it wouldnt give enough power to my detector. So, im going to order the actual hardwire kit, and then go from there.

By the way, to get to the cigarette lighter, you have to take apart the entire center console and remove it...

I was hoping I could turn the cig counter clockwise and get into the mounting area and run the wires through it, then work them under the lip along the side tucked, looking less likely now though.
Yea, i doubt it lol

Its not THAT bad to get to it. Took me 10 minutes to figure things out.

Four 10mm bolts total, two in the front cupholder, one in the back cupholder, and one in front of the e-brake handle after you remove the rear section of the console.

From there, there are four total T25 screws. One on each outer cover under on the front of the console, and then one more under that cover on each side.

Wiggling the console apart is a fun task.
