Fiat is reportedly working on a hybrid variant of its 500 TwinAir supermini, which is estimated to get an astonishing 100 mpg.

The TwinAir 900cc two-cylinder motor, combined with a hybrid motor and Fiat's dual clutch transmission, are all expected to fit underneath the hood, due to the compact packaging of all three components.

This will eliminate concerns about practicality, while the hybrid system, which could concievably allow for rapid acceleration away from stoplights, would help to make the most of the 500's city driving capabilities.

100 mpg?? That's really good news. I've said it before and I'll say it again. This car was designed for mainly city driving. Having really good gas mileage will probably make a lot of smart car owners switch to this.

I'm really interested in this one. With the amount of driving I do on a daily basis that good of a gas mileage will help me save so much money. Money I can spend on the car instead. :)
