The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has begun researching a problem with the 2007-2008 Mini Cooper S. After complaints of engine compartment fires and five destroyed cars, the NHTSA is reporting an increase in these complaints. About 36,000 Mini Cooper “S” vehicles could be affected.
The federal safety agency received 12 complaints of fires, where eight of the fires happened when the engine had been shut off. The NHTSA started a preliminary evaluation this month to try to establish the case of the fires. Once the cause is determined, a recall could be announced. Luckily, no one has been hurt in any of the reported fires.
