Yes - your problem could be any number of things, especially since it has gone from being a daily driver and then transitioning into a car that sat around wasn't used too often. That is the worst thing for any machine, especially an Italian machine...

OK - so let's approach this as a problem related to sitting around too long. I like starting out easy and for $0.00, and then slowly increasing the complexity of the solution as well as the cost.

1st try disconnecting the battery overnight - this will re-set the computer to the factory parameters. This is establish our baseline - knowing that the computer is doing what it is supposed to be doing as it came from the factory.

Then, the next day, change the motor oil & oil filter. The" multi-air" valve system on this engine is very dependent on the condition of the motor oil. Even if there isn't many miles since the last oil change, it should be changed yearly (every 12 months). I prefer any name brand/high quality full synthetic motor oil. Factory suggests 5w-30 for the US, with the option for moving to 10W-30 in the hotter climates of the US.

If the computer re-set and oil change helps BUT doesn't completely cure the condition, add a couple of bottles of name brand fuel system cleaner to the gas tank along with some fresh premium grade gasoline (highest octane available), and mix your driving city/hwy.

Perform what is called "an Italian tune-up" which is basically driving the car like you stole it - hopefully "blowing out the cobwebs" that have formed because of the car being used so infrequently. Don't be afraid to take her up to close to redline in 1st, 2nd & 3rd gear!

Good luck and report back as you work your way through this -
