My driver's window started dragging and sometimes stopping midway, especially when being raised. One day it made a very loud clunk and the rear end of the glass wound up above the door frame and the front half was downward at about a 45 degree angle.

I was only about a half mile from Stateline Chrysler where I bought my 500, although there are no more Fiat signs or cars in sight. They said they still service them.

I was told I need a new regulator, about $75 retail online. They gave me a ride home and said they'd call me with a firm price.

They called and said they'd need the car for a few days. With tax, it was slightly over $500! They had me by the gonads good. I couldn't drive it like that and was pressed for time to shop around.

I don't care if the engine drops out onto the road, I'll scoop it up in a U-Haul and find someone besides them to repair anything. They will never see me again, the **** thieves. $450 in labor to replace a part that most likely cost them well below 50 bucks.

Sorry to hear. I've had great service from Stateline. My passenger side regulator failed cause the cable came off it's drum. I got a local dealer to price match an online price for about $120. I installed myself in a couple hours of taking my time. Perhaps more than the regulator went out for you.

Easy for you is not always easy for anyone else. I change the oil when I have time and check the tire pressure. I'm not a total mechanical klutz, I've built and flown a fixed-wing plane and a rotary wing plane. But when it comes to cars, I don't enjoy working on them at all, so I don't.

When I went into Stateline, I had no expectation of getting screwed. Once they told me the cost, I'd have to retrieve the car, start looking for a "window repair place," and add more time to this endeavor, 2 of which had already been eaten up at Stateline.

It's difficult in this day and age to be without a vehicle for 4-5 days and possibly more. Plus they'd most likely have to order the part.

So to all of you folks that have a lot of time on your hands, love working on cars and have a tool chest of appropriate tools at your disposal, we're all not as fortunate as you. Just the way it is.
