I didn't see any trim charts for North Americans to choose to buy now or wait, so I made my own trim chart. If you click here, it shows much better than below.

*Glass roof has see-through screen that doesn't block sun.
**"Beauty", "Music" & "Los Angeles" are the same price even though "Beauty" deletes the stereo upgrade.

They all seem to have:

1-Pedal Driving
1-Touch Up/Down Windows
11kW AC Charging
85kW DC
Apple-Carplay/Android-Auto
Auto Climate
Auto Wipers
Fingertip Buttons on Wheel
Lane Line Alert

For USA, supposedly the lower-range "Action" trim will never be available.

In most regions, "RED" trim is just "icon" sprayed with an antibacterial but in the US "RED" adds about half of the "La Prima" features.

US "Music", "Beauty", & "Los Angeles" seem to match a fully-loaded "La Prima".

Summary of main differences:
  • Passion is unavailable so far in the US.

  • Icon/RED adds keyless entry & bigger touchscreen, but heavier 16" wheels.
    • For USA only, it also adds LEDs, even heavier 17" wheels, & wireless phone charging.

  • Inspired/LaPrima includes the LEDs & 17s, and adds adaptive cruise, blind spot monitor, front parking sensors, wireless phone charging.
    • For EU only, steel roof is unavail, only heavy glass, or retractable cloth.

  • Abarth makes wireless charging optional, deletes adaptive cruise & adds an even HEAVIER wheel option, but is still 25% quicker to 60mph.

RED has antibacterial spray applied to the cabin air filter, steering wheel, seats, & hatch carpet.

& I personally prefer the 15" over the 16" wheels because in addition to ride, tire cost, & range, they provide better acceleration & braking due to lighter rotational mass.

After I read that RED has keyless entry like Icon, I saw YouTube's Electrifying said it didn't.

& after I read that RED has halogen headlights like Icon, I saw Car&Driver says it has LEDs, at least for USA.

We may get those details &/or pricing at the press release that's scheduled for tomorrow.

I wish they didn't force you to get the bigger wheels if you want the 360° parking sensors, blind spot monitor, etc...
Ya, it's pretty easy/cheap to add a wireless phone pad, change headlight bulbs, & even change wheels. Many owners do that just for looks. But I don't know about aftermarket parking sensors & blind spot monitor.

That's the deal-changer for me: I'd like a Cabrio, but not without a monitor for its huge blind spot with the top down OR up. So if RED is the only trim available, I'm limited to the steel roof.

Some details are coming in, so I guess the press release happened, but even after 2PM now Eastern Time I still can't find anything official yet from Fiat, but I added a column to my chart in post #1 for the US model because...

Both Car&Driver & Cars.com report that:
  • Apparently unlike the EU/UK version, the US version has LED headlights :) & wireless phone charging, but unfortunately heavy 17" wheels :(.
  • Price is 34,095 including $1,595 destination charge.
  • No mention of Cabrio or blindspot monitor

They both also say 149 mile range on EPA although it's not listed there yet. I'm pretty sure there's a new law coming out, at least in California, where EVs must have 150+ miles, so maybe when that law kicks in they'll switch back to 16" wheels to make it qualify.

 Maybe I should be happy it has 17s, because then going down to 15s is easier to justify since it will have an even greater improvement in acceleration.

Some official specs now show at

They confirm some of the above specs, & add. For example it has 360 parking sensors & blind spot monitor.

So I added the newly-released official specs to my chart in post #1.

It only needs to gain 0.7% range, so just switching to 15s would likely do it.

EPA only tests stationary on a dyno, & subtracts a flat 30% in a lame attempt to guesstimate for air drag, so just switching to more aero 17s wouldn't help.

Neither would switching to aerodynamic sidevIew cameras if they make those legal by the time the 150-mile minimum kicks in.

However, EPA does have a secondary method where the manufacturer submits their own test results, so aero 17s might do

The 500e also includes an 11 kW AC-DC on-board charger and a combo 1 socket for easy charging at home or on the road, which can be scheduled ahead of time through Uconnect or the Uconnect mobile app. Estimated charge time from 0% - 80% is approximately 35 minutes with an 85 kW DC Fast charge; estimated time from 0% - 100% is four hours and 15 minutes with a Level 2 (11 kW) charging station.

  • Normal – This mode closely resembles familiar driving characteristics. For example, the coasting experience of an internal combustion engine
  • Range – Activates one-pedal-drive function, which optimizes regenerative braking to capture more energy when coasting •
  • Sherpa – Maximizes energy efficiency to ensure the driver reaches their planned destination, or the nearest charging station. This mode adjusts various parameters, such as limiting the vehicle top speed to 50 mph (80 km/h) and reducing power from 87 kW to 57 kW. Full throttle delivers full power if requested
Will the 500e have regenerative braking? The 500e features one-pedal driving, an experience unique to BEVs. This utilizes the electric motor and regenerative braking to provide stop and go function using only the accelerator pedal. This feature also provides greater capture of energy that would normally be lost and uses the electricity later for propulsion - ideal for low-speed, urban traffic. The technology pairs with E-coasting and the management of vehicle deceleration, to further increase energy efficiency.

Mystery solved!

They seem to be trying to sell as few as possible*, without appearing to do so:

So far, the US 2024 500e will ONLY be available with red paint!

Discussion starter · #19 ·
Discussion starter · #20 · (Edited)
* Limiting sales to only buyers of red cars will reduce the number of people interestedin the car by at least 78.5%, since that's how many US buyers choose white, black, gray, or silver.

Maybe it's because they're already selling more than they can make, in Europe.

Or maybe they want to be able to join Mazda, who are now copying BMW when they said "See, nobody wants an EV", when in those cases it is/was really that nobody wants their EVs for their price, & in this case it will be that people don't want tiny red ones with under 150 mi range for $35k.

Apparently, Chevy "spied" on all their plug-in cars (with their owners' permission) & discovered that 95% of owners do 95% of their charging at home.

The best-kept secret of EVs is they fully recharge the average US daily drive overnight just from an extension cord in a standard wall outlet.

Discussion starter · #25 · (Edited)
DON'T TELL ANYONE !

If you did, then all the EV websites would lose all their "charger" advertising money.

The average driver who can reliably park within extension cord distance from a standard wall outlet at home OR at work only needs the cord that came with their car.

Every Tesla charging at a public AC station uses an adapter, much like the USB adapter we use to charge a phone from a wall outlet.

All the car brands switching to NACS are using adapters in ~2024. That's fine by me.

For long trips I would either just drive my 500e to the airport, or if I wanted to go on a SOLO roadtrip I'd swap with my friend who owns a Tesla 3 but "really misses the 500e for zipping around town", which is what most of us do most of the time anyway!

That charges about 360 miles per hour for my rather lead-footed driving style.

That's about 6 miles per minute. As if that's any easier to visualize!

Oh! It's about 47 minutes per week.
