I went to Fiat today due to getting a warning light on my dash yesterday. It appears I was due for my first oil change (at approximately 10,200 miles). While there I found out I had two nails in my rear left tire (right where I had JUST gotten two nails two weeks ago...but thats another story). Since they don't do the patches for free I opted to head over to Discount Tire since they had just patched it the other week for me. On my way out I asked if they also did the tire rotation and was told they did a partial rotation and just moved them so the better tires were up front.
When I arrived at Discount Tire I explained the situation, and was told unfortunately since I already had two patches in there I could only safely get one more. Luckily for me tho it appeared one of the nails had fallen out and when he went to check the other one it seems it wasn't deep enough to penetrate the tire. He double checked the air pressure and said it was good, no change.
Now to my question.. when I explained what my dealership people said (partial rotation) he said he never heard of that and when he checked the depth of my tires told me it looked like they were never moved. Is this possible? When I was looking at my hub caps the front right is scratched and I could swear that's the one I always end up hitting on the curb. So do they keep those in the same spot, I'd think it'd be easier to just move the whole thing?
Also, the discount auto guy said I was supposed to have my tires rotated every 5,000 miles. Is that true? I get the three free oil changes and tire rotations. You would think they could have mentioned that on one of my weekly washes I get at the dealership.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, I just wonder if I should do something to confirm that they actually did something rather than just using up one of my free tire rotations on a say so especially since another tire professional thinks differently.
