I have the alarm. So far I've encountered two way to set if off. If I try to unlock the car manually using the key, the alarm will sound. If I hit the lock button just before closing the door, and the door doesn't fully latch, the alarm will sound.

Okay, locked car with fob, used key to unlock driver's door, opened it, no alarm sound.
if you use EITHER the fob or the key it will turn the alarm off
try this
roll the window down
lock the car
reach in and use the inside lever to open the door - the alarm should go off
to reset either put the key in the ignition and start the car or press the unlock button

when I was looking to buy my sport I was looking at the 2013 configuration
I bought a 2012 that was on the lot for a good price
the 2013 spec shows the security system standard on sport and lounge
I never saw a configurator for the 2012
I looked at the window sticker to see that in 2012 it was in an option package

For folks who hate the honk (me), open the driver's door, press the lock button on the fob twice, then close the driver's door; it won't honk, but does lock the doors. You may want to verify if it still arms the alarm, if you care about such things. Slightly more convenient than using the key in the door for a stealthy arrival.

I have a different "problem" if you will on my 2012 Abarth... maybe once every three or four times I hit the lock button on the key fob after leaving the car, and after getting the regular beeps indicating the car is locked, about 3-4 seconds after the confirmation beeps I'll get yet another three beeps. I've gone back a few times to make sure the car's locked after these repeating beeps, and it is. Anyone know why every once-in-a-while there are extra beeps, or is this particular just to my car?
Id have a studio check it out if you are concerned of maybe an electrical short.

This works! Thanks!! (only works with driver side door. not the passenger door)

I have yet to test the alarm with this method but im hoping that alarm will also active.

PS: when you set off the alarm, EVIC will flash "break-in atempted" on the LED panel to let you know that alarm went off when your car was locked. I think this is a cool feature.
