I actually called the Maranello Studio in Ontario, Canada and talked to one of the sales guys there about the Grand Opening. He said they do not have a demo. The Abarth was brought just for the opening and then the FIAT guys took it with them when they left. I was trying to get them to look at the Abarth to confirm where the tow hook receptacles were located and found out then they didn't get to keep the one Sergio brought with him.
I second that.. i couldn't make it to the Grand Opening so I contacted them to see if they still had the Abarth and they do not. I would be nice to spend sometime to really look at it in person.. Only time I saw it was at the Toronto Auto Show with 15 people all over the car, getting in the seat next to me, in the trunk, eyes under the hood

Ahhh...guess their original hopes of getting their demo early didn't pan out, I just assumed it was and know they have a bit of pull. Who did you talk to? Paul, Pat or Ken? Great guys and very passionate about their FIATs.

I don't recall the name of the gentleman I spoke with. Very helpful. I explained I was calling from the U.S. and he was more than happy to speak with me. They were indeed disappointed they could not keep it. As an aside I contacted FIAT via their 1-800 number and spoke to a customer service rep there. She couldn't answer the question either, but said there was a service rep meeting/training session next week on the 3rd and she would ask about the tow hook receptacles. She said, all the service reps there have already driven an Abarth and they all love it. She still had no updated information on when the first Abarths would ship from Toluca but I suspect next week just because it takes time to get them to the studios.

My Abarth just went yesterday to code build status code "KZ". Looks like those with demos are getting ready to ship perhaps tomorrow. If it goes to code "KZM" tomorrow then we'll know they are on their way.....hopefully.

Abarth01: Awesome... send me your VON again and I will try to provide an estimated arrival date.

Insight says it is loaded on the train. Still waiting for code KZM so maybe tomorrow. It's showing an ETA to dealership now of 4/24/2012.

I've been trying to get my vehicle's status for a couple of weeks now, and while I was at the Auto Show in New York, my salesman called me and finally gave me the vin number and ship date of 4/11. When I got home, I logged onto the Chrysler vots, and plugged in the vin and saw that it was only scheduled for production. So, do I get my hopes up for a possible 2 to 3 week or so delivery, or am I looking at a longer wait. Does the dealer network have a more up to date inquiry system than the public access?

as of 4:30AM today it arrived on the train into Nuevo Laredo which is right across the Rio Grande from Laredo, TX. If customs doesn't present any problems then it should be in the U.S. soon!

Looks like as of 2:37AM the train is now on hold in the U.S. at the Laredo, TX interchange. Hopefully will transfer to the next train and be on its way out tomorrow? We should see each of the Abarths destined for various locations moving onto other trains for the next leg toward their studio destinations.

I am seriously excited for you. You have to post pics of you picking it up at the dealer!

I'll be sure to get some photos if it works out that I can meet the truck when it arrives later this month. One interesting thing I noted was that the local studio I'm purchasing from has a total of four Abarths on this train. They are listed as "This Vehicle Is In Transit". Two are Nero (one if mine) and the other two are Grigio. I checked the VINs on the site against the Insight Logistics web page and they appear to all be enroute together. This would mean that the demos and the first allocations are together.

Insight now updated at 10:56AM to indicate "interchange received" and the train is on the "Laredo International Bridge, TX". I did a little research on what happens here in Laredo and learned that at this location the Kansas City Southern train headed northbound is being interchanged. A crew pulls the train to the middle of the bridge that runs across the Rio Grande and once there they get off and walk back to their yard in Neuevo Laredo, Mexico. A crew from the U.S. side walks out to the train from the north and boards the engines. They then pull the train slowly into Laredo while customs inspects the passing cars.

I'll say it again, you are this guy

On the move! Latest Insight Logistics info has train with my Abarth passing through Hutto, TX at 8:15AM EDT. Hutto is located approximately half way between San Antonio and Waco, TX. The next interchange is scheduled to take place on the 13th in Salem, IL. From there its due east until arriving at the rail yard in Jessup, MD on or about the 18th for unloading.

All of the following Abarths are on the same train that I'm on. I checked the studio webpage for each and where they listed a vehicle that was "enroute" I rant he VIN against the Insight Logistics page and confirmed they are all on the same train. I'm sure there are more than these but I only checked the studios in my area.
